View Full Version : Time?
'You said to us once before,' said Hermione quietly, 'that there was a time to turn back if we wanted to. We've had time, haven't we?'
You dont think - taking the wording above - that Hermione is thinking of using a time turner?
that there was a time to turn back if we wanted to. We've had time, haven't we?
No, I don't think so, because on another page it is pointed out that all the time turners were smashed in the ministry.
I think that what she meant was they could have turned back long ago, like at the end of each adventure, if they didn't want to keep helping Harry. They could have said no at any time.
I agree with Kashlie. Blaise, I can see what your saying but the sentence before kills your theory:
"'No -' said Harry quickly; he had not counted on this, he had meant them to understand that he was undertaking this most dangerous journey alone."
Although, if Hermione had a hidden message in that sentence, I would definantly think that she was planning to use a time turner.

Good point, Fortesque!
JKR does throw in things like that which prove of importance later...often around Ron! Y'know, the more I think about it, the more likely it seems......why would JKR have bothered describing the 'odd symbols' around it if it meant nothing? I did wonder at the time if it could be a 'fake' gift sent by whoever had given Katie the knecklace, but then forgot about it as the story unfolded.
I think that what Kash said regarding Hermione's comment is spot-on...it was her way of saying "No way, Harry. You're not doing this without us...", but, if she follows her usual ways, she'll probably give that watch of Rons' some close attention and decipher the meaning of the symbols......
Now thats very interesting. Ron with a time turner. If it was a time turner, don't you think Ron would know? I mean his parents would have told him. Plus, where did the Weasly's get this gift? I mean if they were all destroyed then there would be none to buy... But then again maybe Mr. Weasly got it from the Ministry... but why Ron? What do you think they had in mind giving Ron the time turner?
Very interesting theory!
I don't know if the present was from Dumbledore, but I also noticed the strange similarities between the watches. I also don't think we ever found out that Dumbledore's watch was in fact a time turner, so it could be a way of predicting things/looking at things that happened at certain times without going back in time.
Like a way to read the planets/stars for a certain date or time. You can see what is happening in the universe at that particular time, but not necessarily have the power to go and witness it.
As for Hermione talking about using a time turner - have to agree with everyone above. I think she meant that the time for them to decide whether or not they would continue with Harry on his journey had passed a long time ago.
Guess this is 'Painful Lessons' all over again ... :D
Not too worry - I think Ron's reciept of a 'Dumbledore kind of device' deserves it's own thread - this is wild spec - true but wild ;)
