I was just thinking, when Dumbledore died, the spell on Harry was released. Is it possible that when Voldemort is defeated, his spells will also come undone- not AK because once you are dead thats it- but the Longbottoms, and others that have been cursed by Voldemort...is it a possibility?

Hmm..

I would say yes, but I'm thinking that the Longbottoms are more like people who were cursed and are still be effected by the aftereffects of such torture. It'd not like the spell/curse is still on them and as such can be broken and just stopped.. now if like, Voldemort had a certain person under the Imperius Curse at the time of his/her death, then I would say yes, upon his death they should be immediately freed from it's constaints..

I was just talking about this in my thread Dept. of Mysteries: Storage Facility of the Beyond? (Wild Speculation).

I personaly think it's entirely probalble that any or all of Voldy's spells could be undone at the time of his death. This is a very popular theme in folk tales and the like.

Also, to add this, the Longbottom's weren't cursed by Voldemort, but by the Death Eaters who found them. They are not under a spell, they were driven insane by the Cruciatus Curse. I don't think that will go away just because Voldemort is dispatched.

I agree with Tonks here, that any spells Voldemort curently has on someone at the time would end, but pernanant spells, could not be "lifted" In other words any spell that has a continuous effect, like the imperious would continue. But spells that are just "one shot" situations would not be lifted, nor the damage they caused reversed. They are done and over with.

Sirius, isn't the whole point of the imperious curse for the spell doer to be in control of the spell-ee? So if the person who cursed them died then how can they still be in control? I'd say it would have to be lifted.

I see your point about the Longbottoms- they are no longer cursed, they are just insane, so it can't be reversed. For those who are still cursed by Voldemort, I think the spell will be lifted.

I got my wording a bit backwards on my post. (That's what I get for staying up late reading 3 nights in a row!) yes, the imperius would end. as would anything that has continuing effects, but like I said, one shot things, like making someones nose hair grow to 10 feet would not be affected.

I definitely think that Imperius Curses will end - and won't that be interesting to see who was under one . . . :D

As for other things, like SPF said, one-time things won't be undone. As well as AK curses - nope, all done, can't be undone . . .

That's a great idea, though, Kaz! Hadn't ever really thought about it!

Agreed - it wasnt Voldemort that did the deed - and also it was torture ..
I happen to think that the Longbottoms will wake in book 7 - and will help Harry trace at least one of the Horcruxes - the one they knew about and were tourchered for ...

Voldemort's spell of choice was AK - I dont think there is anyway of recovering from that - I think if he used other spells in abundance then maybe - but seems most of the cases we have heard of his fav was AK ...
