I was thinking of Minerva McGonagal (how do you spell her name!?!? lol :D)
Isn't that what it said at the end of the HBP, when Minerva (i won't even try to spell her last name now :)) took Harry into Dumbledore's office? The gargoyles stepped aside like she was the new headmistress?

Vote Binns - the man that can't die! :D

I think Flitwick would be a great choice, but so would Professor Sprout. It seems that the teacher who would assume this position would also be one of the Heads of House, because that was what McGonagall was as Deputy, but I doubt its set in stone.. it just seems logical - one of the best witches/wizards should also have control over a house - :o

With McGonagall taking over as Headmistress, that also means that Gryffindor is without a Head of House. I've seen speculation somewhere (perhaps in another thead? Don't remember) that maybe Hagrid will become Gryffindor's Head of House. If so, I suppose he could be the Deputy Head, although I don't really find that all that likely. There was enough of an uproar about him being a teacher as a half-giant; imagine if he became Deputy Headmaster! He sure would make a good Headmaster if McGonagall was killed though.. but i'm getting way too off track..

Anyway, I think Sprout would make a good Deputy as well. Binns does seem out to me - he's a ghost so I doubt he can actually do spells, which is pretty convenient for him since he teachers History of Magic really.. Trelawney's too batty for Deputy, and the students would probably be like WTH, and besides, McGonagall really has no respect for her! Pince is out, Filch is out, Hooch is out - they're all too minor.. I wonder about Professor Vector or Professor Sinistra - Arithmancy and Astronomy if my memory's right.. we don't know too much about them as teachers but I suppose one of them could become Head of Gryffindor or Deputy Head (although I think we would have learned more about them from the beginning if this were the case)..

Ok, long post, I'll shut up now..

Lockheart - Ha! Didn't McGonagall not like him all that much either? I sure hope he's not well enough to come back.. he was crazy even before that Memory Charm backfired..

I really do think Slughorn will remain on for another year as Potions Professor. It's not like that job is cursed like the DADA one. I suppose the DADA teacher could always be the new Deputy, but I find that VERY unlikely as well.. especially if they've never taught at Hogwarts before..

I don't think Hogwarts will be closed. I think that, as long as the board doesn't decide to shut the school, it will remain open, even if there is only one student. That is what one of them said is it not? There should be a school even if only one child wanted to come.. Even if the board does try to rule that way, chances are the teachers (and maybe even some parents) will give them a hard time! Even without Dumbledore, some parents will probably realize that Hogwarts is a pretty safe place, and in such a dangerous world it would definitely benefit their children to learn magic!

I vote for Flitwick - he has the charms abilities that will be necessary to put the protection back on the school now that Dumbledore is gone.

But, I get the feeling that the new Minister of Magic might step in and decide who runs Hogwarts. He seems like that type of person - controlling. And also, why else would Umbridge have showed up at Dumbledore's funeral. A clue, I think.

I think we saw Umbridge, just like we saw Lockhart - no real purpose except to show that they were still around.
I mean, Umbridge was on the Wizengamot with Dumbledore, and he did rescue her from the centaurs...

As for the new deputy, if Hogwarts stays open, I think that McGonagall will be able to choose her deputy.
Will someone have to take over her position as head of house? I guess so, as she can't favour one house as Headmaster... so who will succeed her there?

I actually think that we wont see much of Hogwarts in the next book. Im not sure if it will close, but I think that Harry will be off looking for the horcruxes and volde, not be at school.
New head teacher - minerva macgonnal (?? ) or someone new
The initials RAB - anyone got any ideas?

Actually we're supposed to see more of Umbridge in B7--at least that's what JKR said in her interview (posted on Mugglenet and Godric's Hollow).

I don't think she'll come back to Hogwats, but she's bound to be doing damage somewheres.

Anyways--the new Deputy HM is sure to be Slugy--he very large and "important." I bet you anything he's gets Head of House for S. and Deputy. Hagrid for head of G. would be wild.

See, while Slughorn has all the friends in high places, he still has been out of teaching for what seems to be a bit more than just a few years.. he's pretty old though, so he'd probably be pretty wise as well, and he used to be Head of Slytherin so we know he has acted in a leadership position before, but fact is that he hasn't been around in the most recent years and as such McGonagall might feel better having a Deputy who was someone she knows a bit better..

.. could be Snape if he can live long enough to explain to Harry ...
It would be a nice end to the series that a fully redeemed Snape becomes the Deputy to Minerva ...
That would be my best guess at this point :D
