View Full Version : Polyjuice potion
Since we are speculating wildly here, and we do know that JKR has used Polyjuice before and surprised us, what are the odds that someone was being impersonated in HBP?
Could wormtail have been at Snape's house because it was really Voldermort as Snape?

Wow!!!! Talk about wild speculation. I don't think Voldermort has any need to diguise himself with "his own people", plus I think his ego would not allow for it, he is in commmand of the DEs and everyone knows it. I would think that Voldermort would only go in disguise to try to get near DD or Harry.
However, I do agree that it is not only possible but in fact probable that someone was not as they appeared in HBP. As I suggested myself (and this was wild speculation also) DD may in fact have been Wormtail and if Snape knew this he would be able to cast AK and mean it.

Oh wow that was you! this one is sooo fun! I was thinking I read that on another forum, but it really is brilliant, and to tell you the truth, I have had a hard time getting it out of my mind. It creeps back in on me in ways.
I was thinking more like Tonks - she wasnt herself and I think JKR's 'love for Lupin' reason didnt sit right with me.
On first reading of HBP I was nearly convinced at the end we would see her being someone else - alas we didnt :(
From what you are saying you think Wormtail was Dumbledore?
Given the events up to the tower - you really think Wormtail was capable of all the things that happened in the cave?
Harry was with Dumbledore all the time - would have been hard to slip a second Dumbledore into the frame ...

Don't think it's actually probable that DD was in fact Wormtail but I do think it's a possibility. After all, despite being a slimey little coward and generally unpleasant little (oops, nearly swore then) so and so, Wormtail is a very accomplished wizard (lets face it, he became an animagus as a teenager, very advanced magic that), has good presence of mind/intelligence (look at how he hid himself with the Weasleys for all those years) and owes Harry a life debt. Regarding the potion in the cave, maybe if it had been the real DD he would not have had to drink it but Wormtail knew no other way. Wormtail could have indeed taken DD's place for much of the school year while DD was off doing more important things.
I do like the Tonks idea though, but then didn't it say at the end of the book, when she was with Moony, that she was looking much better, more like her normal self. (I could be wrong here. In the words of Monty Python "....or did I dream it?" lol)

1. I am not sure that is what I think, but I wonder.
2. He would have been capable of the things in the cave if the cave was a big hoax, designed to convince Harry that Dumbledore was weakened.
3. Harry and Dumbledore parted ways for about 5 minutes when Dumbledore told him to go and get the invisibility cloak. Just AFTER Harry had told Dumbledore that Malfoy was celebrating in the Room of Requirement. Just before they went to the cave. Now the cave trip was planned anyway, as Dumbledore tells Harry as he walks in that he's found it, and it's very possible that Dumbledore already knew what was going on in the room of requirement. Thus the sudden trip to the cave.
I think it's possible that something was up with wormtail and dumbledore anyway.
I posted this in the "This is Freaky" Thread, but for an overview, I think Wormtail came back to Dumbledore sometime in GoF, and that Dumbledore knew exactly what was going to happen at that Graveyard, that he wanted Harry's blood in Voldermort. That there is a big picture here.
So given that, and the black hand, which is described as looking like the flesh had been melted off, like wormtails would have looked....That fawlks didn't come to the rescue, and how out of character it would be for dumbledore to have taken Harry to such a cave not knowing the dangers, the fact there really was no horcurx in the end. And the stunning spell on Harry, under the cloak, which would have been wormtail trying to save his life, I can't rule it out either really.
Of course all of these things have other explainations, and there are holes in the theory, like I said though, it creeps in.
