Just a thought here ..

Could Draco be to Harry like Snape was to Dumbledore?
We know that Draco only did what he had to under duress and threat of death.
The fact he wavered so much on the tower suggested that he wasn't quite ready to be the full DE and live that life.
I just wonder as an act of retribution against the person that forced him into where he is now - the person willing to kill him and his family - he might turn spy for Harry ..

This could account for a possible redemption of Draco and maybe leave him and Harry semi friends ... he seen the path he was destine to follow and understands their is and would never be any glory in it ...

Thoughts?

I like this idea, I have always believed in Draco's eventual redemption. The only problem I see with the spy part, is Draco certainly hasn't worked his way into the inner circle, where he would be privy to critical information that would be worth passing on. But. . . should Snape truly turn out to be for the order, it would be an easy to pass things along, from Snape to Draco, then to Harry. Draco has always admired Snape, and if he comes to know Snape's true collors are the same as his have become. . . it could just work.

I think Draco would be close as Snape to Voldemort as the next stages of Voldemort's return are executed - afterall he may not have killed Dumbledore but he certainly helped get him to the point he could be killed - I think Voldemort will see that and respect it.
I think Draco is going through the same guilt as what Snape did after finding out the Potter's have been killed - same kind of principle - and I think Draco will want to try and make amends for leading to Dumbledore dying - you might doubt that but look how he reacted when Dumbledore told him he allowed Greyback into the school where he could attack his friends ...
I think Draco even doubted he would succeed - when he did and events happened - he couldnt kill Dumbledore and seeing the man who was willing to forgive him after all he did be killed - I think he has real potential to become a spy in the camp - maybe not as good as Snape but I think he could play a bug part in Harry getting to Voldemort!

As one of Snapes favorite students, he will probably turn out to be more like Snape than even his own Father. Could Snape have been giving him Occlumency lessons? Draco would need to be and accomplished occlumens to get past Voldy legilimens.

Well it was said in HBP that Bellatrix was teaching Draco - Draco disclosed this to Snape when Snape cornered him at Slughorn's Christmas bash ... that was a wierd moment ... I dont think Narcissa ever told Draco that Snape knew of the plan ... of course Snape was worried sick because he knew if Draco screwed it up, could have serious concequences on him!
But still - you make a great point - they have a bond there - one which looked strained towards the middle of HBP - but remeber who did the deed and also helped Draco escape ... I think that would have earned Snape some credability back in Draco's world!
