Don't quite know if this is the right place to put this, but have seen in one of the UK's less salubrious daily newspapers that David Hasselhoff has reportedly been visiting the set of GoF and has been offered (!) a part in the film!!

It just conjured up images of him as some of the characters we know from the book - I know most of them - such as Voldemort, Amos Diggory and more - have already been cast, but wondered what others thought would be the part for Mr Hasselhoff?

Am aware that, due to the reputation of the newspaper in question, that this is probably at load of old guff, but thought it would be fun for a little speculation!!

I reckon he could be one of the old paintings in Dumbledore's office or in some remote corner of Hogwarts....

The Hoff in GoF would just be great!
The guy is a legend, no-one should be dissing the Hoff ok

It wouldnt be that strange, afterall a Mr Brown of Stone Roses fame made a cameo in PoA (Look for Leaky couldron and guy lazily stirring drink using magic finger!)
Now is anyone said he would be in a Potter film I would have laughed but it is all commited to film history now!

So bring on the Hoff - he could be written is as a lifeguard in the Lake challenged :D

Very good Blaise! I can just see him running in slow motion into the freezing lake, diving in to rescue that berk Krum, and then the giant squid chucking him back out of the lake!! :p

As for your ref to Ian Brown - he's cool... but Hasselhoff?!?!?

The Hoff is a god and have you heard him sing?
The Germans cant get enough of him - he has had number ones the whole deal!
Respect is due to the Hoff and I wont allow anymore dissing of the tanned love god ;)

Blaise, sarcasm suits you well.

Well CTS, he does do it so well, and the sincerity with which he does it, does add to it somewhat, don't you think?

Perhaps Blaise ought to start a "Hoff the Huff as Karkaroff" campaign!!

Whoah, whoah, whoah - Hasselhoff - a god? A singer? Hmm.. Blaise - what is going on?!

I can't imagine Hasselhoff being in Harry Potter. And I have no idea what role he would play... catchthesnitch has an alright suggestion - the only thing i can imagine him as is a merman - and even that is pushing it. Although, he can utilise his singing voice then - I'm sure he can provide the screeching of the Egg! :p

Beanie - Mr. Brown is Mr. Brown, and Mr. Brown is cool. (Btw - been hearing Stone Roses reunion rumours lately. :) )

However - David Hasselhoff is American and was in such atrocities as Baywatch and Knightrider (ok - Knightrider was entertaining). And what do we know about Americans in HP movies? There will be none of them! JKR said so! I'm sure she did ...

It just wouldn't be cool.

Just thought I would put everyone's minds at rest (well, with possible exception of Blaise who for some reason thinks Mr H is cool!) and report that the rumours of Hasselhoff being in GoF were totally unfounded!

Huge sigh of relief from Tink anyways!!

It's a sad loss to the Potter movie community - the Hoff is and always will be a legend :)

Well, I'm certainly glad that got settled - just a question regarding JKR's comment about no Americans in the movies. Did she specifically say they would never cast an American or did she say that they were not considering high-profile Americans? I guess I can't really see a reason they would ever have to cast an American anyway, but was just wondering.

I think more specifically the movies are hiring people from the same nation as the character they represent. Seeing as there are no mentions of Americans in the novels thus far (with the exception of a small mention that there are indeed American witches in GoF), there really is no need to hire any Americans. And even though I am an American, I really would rather not see an American written into the novels. It seems that inherently the introduction of an American into a foreign (for me) work tends to lead to silly political statements that really shouldn’t been included in the world of Harry Potter.

Just stumbling onto this sweet thread ;-) Leaving aside the tempting idea of a lifeguard round the Lake, the only part that would really have suited Hasselhoff - in my humble opinion - is that of Gilderoy Lockhart.
But they would have had to dub him with a British English speaker, I suppose. - In general I agree with people above who said that the Potter movies ought to be played by British actors. Other accents just would sound out of place. You wouldn't have wanted to see Sir John Gielgud instead of John Wayne in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", I assume.

LOL at the prospect of Mr. Hasselhoff as Gilderoy. I personally think they cast Gilderoy perfectly, but agree that Mr. Lockhart would have been a nice match if they had to choose a space for Hasselhoff.

I am also of the opinion that it would be a shame if an American were to be needlessly added into the series. There is no need for someone from America, and yes, the witches of Salem were added as a nice mention and historical reference, so that satisfies me.
