The thing is that I was reading again the book 2 before going to see the GOF film on friday (finally it arrives my small tiny city!!!!) and I read something that call my attention. You see when Tom Riddle is explaining to Harry what has happened with Ginny in the Chamber he mentions that he wanted her soul and that he obtained it and that in turn, now I quote: "a few of my secrets, to start pouring a little of my soul back into her..."

At least my edition has the pronouns in a different type of letter, that means that these words have been highlighted for some reason....and Tom is talking of a piece of his soul....the key to the fight battle is love, and harry´s love interest is Ginny....could it be that the last horcrux is Ginny? I mean in book 5 she reminds us all that she was possessed by Voldemort in case we forgot that detail and after Dumbledor´s death she stops sleeping.......I think she has always been key to the books but Rowling has kept her in the background for a reason.....
Please let me know what you think.....
I got this from zorcer's 'Welcome' post - thought it was really good so made it into it's own discussion!

First off - I like it - and for another reason on top of all the great points you made!
Dumbledore mentions the choice between what it right and what is easy - imagine if Harry and Ginny work out that she is a Horcrux - Harry has to kill her in order to kill Voldemort
She of course would be happy to ... the bigger picture and all - Harry saved her once and she felt love - but she will realise there is no other way.
Harry is then faced with killing someone he loves in order to kill the one he wants - the greater good and all ...
Of course by doing it - he would be really mad when he went to kill Voldemort - so good retribution ...
And also remember - she is also a 7 - 7th Weasley in the family and only female!
I wonder if Harry makes it through to saving the Weasley's life 7 times by the end of the last book and faced with the prospect he actually now has to kill one!
Wouldnt that be savage!
I reckon JKR would get lynched if she did that!

I really like it - awesome stuff there!

Hello,

and thanks for the great welcome.
Well, when I read HBP I thought as a many others that surely the last horcrux must be a person, most probably Harry himself as the soul is ripped by a significant murder and all that. But then today I was reading Book 2 and then I saw the italic in the pronouns and I remembered that Rowling always says that Book 2 has all the clues and is one of the most important books. i always thought it was because it is when we learn a lot of Voldermort and about the powers he shares with Harry....and then it struck me that Ginny is a minor character in Book 1,3 and 4 and then she starts to have a greater importance from Book 5 to 6....but on Book 2 she is very important.....

Love is the clue and as you said Dumbledore has sais many times that Harry must choose between what is easy and what is right.....Ginny is the 7th child, the only girl, and her name is quite symbolic, unlike the other characters she has special name and in Rowlings website she mentions why she choose this name as she wanted the only Weasley girl in generation to have a name which meant something.....

I hate the idea that maybe Ginny has to die to save the world, but honestly, Rowling will get lynched just the same if she kills Harry.....
The more I think about it the more little things I see on the books....I will finish Book 2 today and read some of Book 5 to see if I can see more clues....I will keep you posted and .....THANKS for the really nice welcome!!!!!

This would make for a compelling story -- terrible but compelling. I think that JKR has sqashed it, though in her third part of the interview with Mugglenet/Leaky.

MA: Someone put it to me last night, that if Ginny, with the diary -

JKR: Harry definitely destroyed that piece of soul, you saw it take shape, you saw it destroyed, it’s gone. And Ginny is definitely in no way possessed by Voldemort.
But, this can be interpreted very different ways. Plus, with DD telling Harry that he destroyed the diary (which was a horcrux) . . . your theory would require that the soul moved from the diary to Ginny, right? I think it's a neat idea, though. Wow! That would be scary!

Please don't take this as a blow-off -- it's not. I wanted to get more info out there to add to the discussion. WELCOME to TFH! It's a great place to be!

I really like this idea, and it makes sense, a lot more sense (to be honest) than Harry being a horcrux. I like the fact that Alz brings up the point that she is the only female and the 7th Wealsy. Which is interesting because 7 and 12 runs common in this book. And although Harry did destroy Tom Riddle's diary, there is probably still a piece of what Tom Riddle put in Ginny's body, if she is in fact a horcrux. Because remember, she still has these memories from the Chamber of Secerts, and memories are part of one's soul, internal scars.

But would Harry kill Ginny to kill Voldemort, I don't know, veil theory again? Love overpowers all, and it emphasized very much in all the books, would Harry out of wanting to kill Voldermort kill Ginny, than she would come back to life out of Harry's love for her (althought they still aren't dating). I would really hate to see Ginny to die.

Well first of let me mention how much I HATE this idea.... (let me finish before you go bombing me :P )... but how plausible it really is. I hate it, cause I love Ginny. Love that she and Harry have gotten together. They would make such a great couple and look forward to see where JKR takes them in the next and final book.
It would put Harry in a difficult position if she did turn out to be the last or one of the horcruxes.... I don't think Harry would be able to bring himself with hurting her if he was faced with the decision. Not only would he have to hurt someone to dear to him, but he'd have to face the entire Weasley family afterwards. I am not dispusting that she maybe , but that she is what is he to do.... I love this idea... really do....

Hi,

I love Ginny too, that is why I was reading again all that part again, she has always intrigued me and when she and Harry started dating I thought it was great and all that.....It is just that it was strange to see the Italics there but maybe I saw something where there was nothing....the interview bit really seems to debunk my theory a bit, but still, I HATE the idea of Harry being a Horcrux as I really do not want him to die, of course I don´t want Ginny to die too....I have a real dilemma here as I do not want anyone dying but.......the end must be tragic and amazing...that is what we have been expecting.....

By the way, i have just seen the film, FINALLY! and it was great, I also realized that Ginny has a small part in the film (she has a tiny part in the book) but she appears much more than in PoA movie....maybe they are preparing us to see more of her in the next movies......
Still if love is the key to finish Voldemort Ginny must have a role on it. I mean Friendship is also love and there we have Ron and Hermione, but Harry loves Ginny even if they are not dating....so, maybe she is a Horcrux or not but surely she will be part of the final battle.....is it 3 years that we have to wait????
I will start to go yoga

Actually Ginny's part in GoF was a lot bigger than before - she was hanging around in quite a few scene's - guess JKR tipped them off that she needed to be more into things in order to make the love thing plausible.
I suppose JKR's words above can be plyed and manipulated to suit needs - you could argue is a horcrux a possession?
Possession to me was more like what Voldemort tried to do to Harry in OoTP and what he succeeded to do to Ginny in CoS ... but placing a soul piece in her ... well as I said it can and will be bent and twisted to all needs ... :D

WOW! that is very interesting but ireally hope she isn't. that would just be so tragic!:( it could a kind of romeo and thing with Harry refusing to do it so Ginny does it and then when Voldemorts dead Harry kills himself. OH I LOVE ALL THIS DRAMA!:D

I will use my same belief here that I used on "Harry is a Horcrux", in that I don't think it possible for a piece of soul to be placed in a living being that already has a soul. I know that it would be an amazingly anguishing revelation for Harry to find that Ginny was a Horcrux. However, I just can't see that happening. It is hard enough to accept that Harry will have to become a killer to do Voldemort in, but imposible to accept that Harry will have to kill someone he loves who has done no wrong. and well, JKR did say that the diary horcrux was destroyed, so that pretty much cinches it I think.

J.K.R.'s comment seems pretty definitive to me, and I agree with Sirius Potter Fan that it would be overwhelming to the extreme, for Harry to have to kill Ginny in addition to Voldemort. I wanted to point out that the diary's effect on Ginny, large gaps of time missing from her memory, are completely different than Voldemort's effect on Harry. I think this is another piece of supporting evidence that Harry is a Horcrux.

it's an interesting theory, but i doubt she would do that. HBP seems to be heading towards the direction of the whole Spiderman thing (i can't go out with you because of my enemies, if they found out about you...). So to me that implys that he will get back with Ginny at the end of Book 7. To do this Ginny couldn't be dead.

Well,

It is just that the idea struck me as possible, that does not mean that I want something like to happen....of course I DO hope both (Harry&Ginny) survive and get back together but I also think that Nagini is not the last horcrux.....I am sure the last horcrux is a person, someone who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and not even Voldy knows where is his last piece of soul.....
The end will surely be dramatic, as you said Harry will have to kill, and that is dramatic enough for me.....I just do not want him to die (nor Ginny)
When is the 7th book going to be published (approx.)?

And by the way and off-topic: yesterday I was reading stuff about Ginny in other forums, and lots of people were quite mean with the girl that plays Ginny in the movies and I just think she is lovely (I know it has nothing to do with the topic, I am sorry for that, but I needed to defend her, they were very mean)

I reckon 7-7-7 - 7th of July 2007 ;) - because 7 is the magical number right?
Fits in time wise!

What I like the most about this theory is as Zorcer points out - JKR isnt shy about causing a stir ... I mean look at her past few killings!
The idea is sad, tragic, tormenting the whole lot - and all Harry seem's to have done is suffer ... and JKR did say if she was Harry she would hide because she knows what he has coming!

hi er im new here but i have a theory. I think Ginny will go with harry, ron, and hermionie to find the horcruxes. I also think that Ginny is a horcrux because
1)shes the seventh child of the weaslys and so far 7 seems to be a really important number (ie, seven yrs of hogwarts, ect)
2)why else would jk rowling have put her and harry together for what 2 mths (?) in the sixth book if she didnt have a bigger role
3)y did voldemort give lily potter so many chances to step aside the night of her death? maybe b/c he or 1 of his followers liked lily, (kinda out there i no but)
4) and its not just conincidence that ginny looks like lily potter

write back and tell me if this is a valid theory or if its just a sad hope to get ginny back in the books
