Not quite the same as "I must not tell lies."
Nowhere near as significant.

Urg. That's frustrating! "I must not tell lies" is so much better!!! Where'd you find that pic?
so much for remaining true to the book.
although perhaps there has been another significant plot change in which he has that detention after the decrees come in, so that he is breaking the new rules?
still...that will annoy everyone as much.

Nymphadora, Found it on Leaky http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/#article:9250 along with some other interesting snaps.
I have to say, it seems to me that the producers have 'broken the rules' here because they have not really stayed true to the books, "I must not tell lies" is much better, and more much meaningful (since Harry was supposedly telling lies about Voldemort)
On another note, that Leaky Cauldron site is great!

i dont no why, but i alway so look forward to the films i am countin down the days till OoTP i dont no why i get so excited as although they are good quite dissapointed, such as the world cup in gof where were the veela leprican gold and the twins 'blackmailing' ludo bagman, still another big difference to this fime 'i will not tell lies' the reason umbridge is there in the first place is because of dumbledore declaring voldmort is back, lets wait and see thou

Interesting edit there - I wonder why they chose that instead of the original text?
Some great shots there of the set - thanks for sharing!

i was thinking along the lines of umbridge coming straight into the movie with the power to overrule teachers and made it a rule to never speak voldemorts name within the school
or maybe she just made it a rule for her class..??
just got to wait it out haha

Just noticed that the photo shows the writing etched on Harry's left hand whereas in the book Harry is left handed and the etching appears on his right hand.
He let out a gasp of pain. The words had appeared on the parchment in what appeared to be shining red ink. At the same time, the words had appeared on the back of Harrys right hand, cut into his skin as though traced there by a scalpel - yet even as he stared at the shining cut, the skin healed over again, leaving the place where it had been slightly redder than before but quite smooth.Presumably this means that there is no significance to Harry's left-handedness although left-handedness is significant within the bible. Before his fall Satan sat on the left of God. The “left hand path” is associated with a number of religions including Satanism, Church of Satan, Demonolatry, Dragon Rouge, Luciferianism, Setianism, Chaos magic, Quimbanda and Dark Spirituality.
There was a time, quite recently, when children who were left handed were forced to be right handed when they reached school. My own father was one of them. It seems that left handedness was seen as being similar to being able to speak parseltongue in the wizard world.

i always assumed that harry was right handed because the words appeared on his right hand. only seemed natrual, but that is OT so, i guess i should shut up now. but, where does it say that harry is left handed? i am left handed, and think it would be rather sweet if harry was too, ok, back to the topic... grrrrrr. why change such a great line? it so not cool. i bet when the movie comes out, there will be no reason for having changed it too. sometimes i see change as a good thing (like how ron deals with the boggart in GoF, roller skates are SOOOOO much funnier than a legless spider thank you very much) but for the most part, the little changes irritate me. like when they freed sirius in PoA, i mean, they could have shown them alohamora the window and him climbing out couldnt they? i dunno, little changes like that bug me. its sooooo not cool.

Ooops just found a quote to say that Harry is right handed.
I assumed, as the director must have done, that the etching appeared on the hand that was not holding the quill.
I am afraid that all the left hand stuff must be forgotten! How embarassing!
