Hagrid arrived bang on midnight on Harry’s 11th birthday – was this important?

Could he for some magical reason not be able to contact Harry before hand - perhaps the added protection around Harry that Dumbledore placed there, meant that no one from the magical community could contact him in person until Harry turned 11 and was then classed as magically ready?

OK, this made me think of something, could a person be unplottable? If so, Dumbledore could have made Harry unplottable until his 11th birthday, when he would be safely returned to the magical world... I think that it is important that he couldn't get there before that, and I do think that it has something to do with the protection that Dumbledore put on him, even if it has nothing to do with him being Unplottable....

OoHhhH - now that is a great catch!
We all know about 12's and stuff .... there is another one right :p

You know - I never really gave that much thought - but once again that is a great point!
Why dead on 12.00 - cant be for artistic effect ...
I think you both raised an interesting point about protection and locating Harry ... and it seems to be consistant .. so all I can do is add a 'I agree' :o

I never thought of that before. Maybe Dumbledore made Hagrid wait until then for one of his own reasons...the more I think into Dumbledore the more brillant he seems.

Hagrid is a great tool to Dumbledore - he doesnt ask too many questions - he isnt too bright and has full trust and respect for him - and he would gladly lay his life down for him ...

This could be another example of the puppet master pulling the strings ... ;)

If he can't be located why do letters get sent to his precise location?
Owls wouldn't be able to find him.

I would think that Dumbledore would know where to send the owls, and that he could address the envelopes and send them off, but no one else... We all know that there were protections cast over Harry while he lived at Privet Dive, and I think it may have been another precaution that not may people knew where he was...

That is a good point as wizards can make themselves unplottable - something that JKR has mentioned, but didn't go into a great deal of detail. She has also yet, to my knowledge to mention it in the books so perhaps making yourself unplottable is something we will hear more of.

I think Sirius would have made himself unplottable and I am sure JKR mentioned this during on of her online interviews. So if he was on the run and unplottable, Harry didn't know where he was but Hedwig still got to him. I think the owls can find anyone and dont need an address.

First of all I thought that perhaps a Fidelius Charm had been put on Harry, and Dumbledore was the Secret Keeper, so until Harry was of age that he could receive his letter, no-one knew where he was, but then I remembered that Hagrid had brought Harry to Privet Drive in the first place! :o

Then I began to think more about the time element, and other threads, particular DiE - what if previously no-one had gone to get Harry? What if Harry had been taken by Death Eaters? What then, if Dumbledore had manipulated time in order to save Harry, and because he knew of the exact time of the attack, he sent Hagrid to collect Harry, almost as soon as Voldemort had killed Lily and James? What if we are being primed with the number 12? Something Dumbledore and Voldemort know about, and each time, Dumbledore is trying to outwit Voldemort?

Then, when it came to Harry's birthday, the exact minute that Harry turns 11, Hagrid turns up, under instruction from Dumbledore, to ensure that he gets his letter and learns about Hogwarts.

God, I think I've had too much coffee today!

I really like the idea that some of the protections placed on Harry during those post attack moments when Harry was taken somewhere included some kind of unplottable charm ..
Perhaps Dumbledore sealed it the moment he left him on the doorstep of Privet drive?
It would afford Harry ultimate protection until a time when he was starting to feel his magic side - and was able to be re-integrated back into the magical world with the protection of Hogwarts.
In fact Dumbledore might have had to do it this way - because he knew Harry had to go to Hogwarts and become the wizard he was destine for?

Good points...! And to aid the 'unplottable' theory further, the Dursleys were made Secret Keepers in the letter that Dumbledore wrote and left with the infant Harry. They, being the insufferable Muggles that they are would not even have been aware of this fact, and as they spent their entire lives trying to hide the magical world, and deny it's existance, were perfect candidates to be secret keepers....they couldn't tell because they don't know!! And of course, they still are, and a hint of this was made with the howler sent to Petunia Dursley by Dumbledore....

That is a great thought yarvelling!! The Dursleys as secret keepers!! I do think that we are yet to learn the whole thing around the Dursleys taking Harry in in the first place and that letter left by Dumbledore when Harry was a baby.

Welcome Welcome! :D

Ok, now liking that one a great deal!
It seems so rich in subversive writing by JKR!
Would it be delicous if that was the case - Dumbledore sets the seal to the Fidilus charm in that letter!
Great thinking yarvelling!
