"AS for the Stone, it has been destroyed.. " dumbledore said.
'But that means Nicolas Flamel and his wife will die, won't they?'
'They have enough Elixir stored to set their affairs in order and then, yes, they will die.'
i was just wondering that at the end of the PS/SS dumbledore tells harry that PS is destroyed. only the needed amount is being taken care of and saved by the NF.
one might think by looking at the old age of dumbledore, that he may be taking PS for it. (if its a kind of medicine to take), and he is definitely a friend of NF, and the person to know about it.
secondly, do u think this PS can help dumbledore more in the future??
then, y is it that Volde needs that smaller one, for once only, if they have to take it again and again???
also, we have known that a very small part of stone which can easily be taken into your hand was there......... how much is needed????
I was under the impression that the PS/SS was a device of sorts from which one could extract the elixir . . . Nicolas Flamel used it to make the elixir that he needed to keep himself and his wife alive.
Voldemort would have used it to continue making the elixir for long after - he wanted to be immortal, so he would have kept the PS/SS around so he would never die.
I have thought about Dumbledore using the elixir, but then JKR said that he is only 150 years old, which is old, but that wizards have longer lifespans than Muggles. She did not indicate at all that his age was unusual.

I don't think that Dumbledore took the elixir of life to add longevity to his life - JKR has said somewhere that wizards live longer than muggles anyway, so I think this explains his age!!
As for the Philosopher's Stone, I think, as Boing has said, that it is used in some way to produce the elixir, that Flamel had already produced some of the elixir prior to the Stone being destroyed. I don't think there are "pieces" of the stone, there was just the one I believe.

I think Dumbledore just said the stone was destroyed--it is possible for it to be hidded--we have seen that Dumbledore has not come forward with informationin the past-
-I know it is a stretch to think he would lie to Harry but maybe only N Flamel's portion was destroyed
Yah JKR did say that 150 isnt unusal for a Wizard ...
The Stone is gone - Flamel was left with some stock that will dry up and he will die as well ..
I think Dumbledore was too unselfish to take stock as well as the stone from him - I think on this occasion we take the man at his word ...

Yeah I cant see him flat out lie as much as I try to believe in a conspiracy--I believe the stone is actually gone unfortunately--
DD actually could have told the truth completely on this one
But he was helping N Flamel--are we sure that he didnt make his own stone :D
I just dont get the impression Dumbledore wants to live forever - it would make him to similar to Voldemort if he was trying to stave off death as well ...
I think Dumbledore is content to live as long as it takes to set right what he feels is wrong -
And also remember ....
"To the well organised mind, death is nothing more than the next great adventure."

yes i agree with you king and what about the stone left.... may be voldemort will go for it again....
y not.... jkr has just closed the topic with these sentences.
may be it will help in the future.
after all, DD has hidden so many things before, may be he is hiding something again.
v r still discussing about dd's plan. may be it is there to help........
See Voldemort already made a play for the stone - hence PS/SS book - I dont think that we will see a repeat of this - especially knowing how it all ended the last time ...
While Voldemort is obsessed with immortality - I dont think he is the type to want to repeat mistake of the past - and in this case he has been there and done that ...
Agreed. I can't really see why he wouldn't have just tried to go and get the rest of the elixir already if he knew it was out there. It's been a few years. I think by this point Nicolas and Perenelle are long gone. They had enough to "get their affairs in order" and were then going to let nature take its course.
I don't know how often they would have to take the elixir, but I would think they wouldn't have had more than a couple months' worth to get them through what they needed to take care of.

sorry to start it again......
but got confused over the topic again.
Firenze told Harry that PS is the Elixir of Life, that means SOMETHING THAT MEAN U WILL NEVER DIE ONCE YOU TAKE IT.
then y they have ENOUGH Elixir stored to set their affairs in order,
and y will they then die if they have taken it?
See I took it to mean what it was - an elixir of life - not a cure against death.
I think it was draughted to prolong a persons death - but required a top up to ensure that the effects were still current - and well that is what we saw explained by Dumbledore - you need to keep taking it or otherwise the effects wear off - and you will age and die like normal :)
That's what I took it to mean as well. It gives you life - it's not an elixir of immortality, just life. So, you take it and it prolongs your life a bit (can't be too much, either, as Dumbledore says they had enough to put their affairs in order, which I wouldn't think would take too long, so perhaps it was even something you needed to take every week or two weeks or something . . . ). And, if you stop taking it, that's it. You have whatever life is left in your body and then you die just like anyone else.
