JKR is still sticking by her promise that after book 7 she will no longer write about Harry, but what do you think her next work will be? I would personally love to see other areas of this world that we have just barely scratched the surface of. How about an Auror's series? or... the Wizard communities of other countries? Are there wizards in the US? I know I am going to want more wizards and witches!
And after all... once you get rid of one bad guy, there are always more to come

I would love to see more of the wizarding world...to a point. But I am not going to read Harry Potter and the Midlife Crisis.
I would like to see her branch out and do other things. It would be hard with the bar set so high with Harry Potter, but I want to see her do something else. An adult book. Or anything, let's see her strut her stuff.

No, I wouldn't want to see HP and the midlife crisis LOL, and if she does continue in the wizarding world, (and if Harry survives) there may be references to him, but I'm shure she will be true to her promise, in that she won't be writing "about" him. There is just so much unexplored teritory in the wizarding world. not only in the future, but more details of the past. How about learning about Fudge's youth? (probably boring) or... a saga about the ever popular Goblin wars? The possibilities are endless! guess I'm not looking forward to going into magical withdrawl! :p

I don't think any of us are! :p
Unfortunately, I don't think that she will write about the wizarding world after this. Or, if she does, it will be a long time coming. She might publish that book that was rumored awhile ago with her notes and backhistory, but I don't think another series will branch off from this one. I think she will write about something else that interests her and is completely different from the HP world.
Oh, and to answer your question, there are definitely wizards in the US - remember the Quidditch World Cup when Harry passes by the group of witches from the Salem Institute . . . :D

I am gonna agree with Boing and say that if she does write about the wizarding world again, it will be a long time off. The thing is though, as sad as it is, I think she may be pigeon holed into the fantasy genre because of the success of HP. Either that or people expect everything she has done to be as good or better than HP, and those are some really high standards to surpass...

NO, obviously not. its not the end of wizarding world. but for HP. and thats why we all sometimes think, (sadly) as told by jkr that he is not going to live up more. but yes, i think she is not going to write more.
tho, she must. as she is an excellent one (proves the presence of all of us crazy people here).
JKR is a writer and well think of them like actors - they dont want to be typecast - as in she doesnt want to just write fantasy books on magical worlds.
I think she will write more - but I think she will make a point of doing something vastly different that what we are used to - just to show she has spectrum and depth to her skills - so sadly I think post book 7 we will never see a return to Hogwarts - not like she will need the money :D

I think JKR may well have shot herself in the foot by writing such an incredible series of books as her first published works, as it may be that readers will feel she will never top the Potter Septology, or new readers may not even try any of her future stuff as they just think of her as the "woman who wrote the Harry Potter books".
I for one would be interested to see what she produces in the future!

Oh I do think JKR will continue to write, just not HP. I hope just is not typecast into fantasy. She is talented, and whatever she wants to write will be good.
I think she should break away, and use a different pen name and write something else. Like say Joanne K Rowling this time instead of JK Rowling. It will help establish her as even more different in people's minds.
I think that she has the opportunity to tap into a whole new market as well. It's hard to believe, but there are people out there that don't really know her name - they know Harry's name better. I do think that she'll write again - I think she'll take time off to just be with family, though, for awhile and then see if an idea strikes her.
I bet she's got some ideas already about what she would like to write about . . . and as I said, there are people out there that aren't necessarily fans of HP, but would be fans of hers on a different topic perhaps.

I think by the time she has finished a very lengthy book 7 that she will be done with Harry Potter and Hogwarts forever. JKR mentioned in an interview that she took some time off between I think POA and GoF and wrote something that was nothing to do with Harry or Hogwarts but was all for her. She also said it was unfinished so perhaps she will finish that.
If I was JKR I would write my next unrelated HP book under an assumed name - I think the pressure of having people compare your next book, which I dont think will be anything to do with magic will be too high. Perhaps she will write other childrens books based on the experiences of her three children? :)
