Snape's Allegiance

Prediction:

That Snape will finally be vindicated of his previous Death Eater activities, and will demonstrate his loyalty to Dumbledore, Hogwarts and even Harry.

Reasoning:

Dumbledore himself has said that Snape has put his life on the line in the past to assist the Order of the Phoenix against Voldemort. Hermione, the brightest witch of her age, has stated that she believes Snape to be good, along with Dumbledore's faith in him. I believe that at some stage in Book 7 we will have concrete proof that Snape is good!

Re: Snape's Allegiance

Agreed - but just!

I personally think there should have been a third because he wont be loyal to Dumbledore - but went with agreed for Harry!

Reasoning

I think Snape feels guilt over something to do with the Potters - he looks out for Harry and tries to guide him even if he looks outwards and being the exact opposite.

I dont think he is loyal to Dumbledore or Voldemort - he is doing what he needs to for Harry's sake and a chance to make amends for a mistake!

Agreed - I think Snape will be vindicated (alrighttt i finally know what that word means - )

Reasoning:

I do think that Snape is now definitely loyal to Dumbledore. Dumbledore trusts him now, and I just don't think that he would betray Dumbledore's trust, especially because Dumbledore didn't have to give him a second chance.

I think i'm too trusting, but I just don't get the feeling that Snape will go betray Dumbledore and the Order and go back to Voldemort - I just can't see it... don't know that thats all that great of a reason, but its all i've got!

Yes, but not entirely...

Reasoning:

I think that Snape will be vindicated, and that he will turn out to be on Harry's side, but I think we will be fooled at first into thinking he has returned to Voldemort. Not sure why, just a feeling I have

Re: Snape's Allegiance

Voted.

Agreed - but only because there wasn't a third of option of neither.

Reasoning

Whilst I do not think Snape is all evil. I think he has done some evil deeds in the past but went over to Dumbledore when it all got out of hand. Although I do think he is loyal ultimately to Dumbledore I do think he has some evilness in him but will do good and will be proven to be a basically good person in the end.

Re: Snape's Allegiance

Okay, I said that I agree, but there is that evil side of me that really wants to see him as totally evil and betray everyone. I don't know, but I think that would make an interesting storyline, but in terms of what I think will really happen? He'll turn out okay in the end.

Re: Snape's Allegiance

I think Snape is a man with good intentions who just is capable of making Harry's life miserable and is not a very likeable person. Sometimes good people aren't very likeable.

Re: Snape's Allegiance

Agreed - with hesitation.

Reasoning:

I think Snape will perform a final act that will show his loyalty to Dumbledore, but I think he will end up dying because of it. Snape has been hell bent to cause Harry as much grief as he possibly can, and Dumbledore trusts him for a reason we can only guess - because as Dumbledore said in the trial Harry watched in the pensieve, Snape turned spy for Dumbledore? I'm not sure that's a good enough reason.

As Sirius mentioned about his brother, Regulus - he joined Voldemort as a young kid, and then decided he wanted out because he couldn't do what was being asked of him. As Sirius said, you can't resign from Voldemort's service. It's serve or die. Snape is still a Death Eater, and will be one until he dies or Voldemort dies. Since the only person, according to prophecy, who can make Voldemort die is Harry, Snape has no choice but to make sure Harry remains safe and alive, otherwise Snape's is destined to die. Being the good little Slytherin he is, he is simply watching out for his own hide, nothing more.

Re: Snape's Allegiance

I'm a little late.. I'm a little cheater
But having read HBP, I honestly think Snape is evil.
Yeah, yeah, there are the threads where people stick up for him and say he HAD to do it to save himself from the Unbreakable Vow.. But I really don't think he HAD to. He had plenty of choices. remain loyal to Dumbledore and fighting back the DE, who apparently feared Snape, would not have broken the Unbreakable Vow at all--except maybe that part about "doing the mission should Malfoy fail." But... if he was truly loyal, Snape shouldn't have thought to save his skin and not kill Dumbledore!
