Alas Smith or Bones?
Leading on from the hunt for the Ravenclaw links - I am now looking at the Hufflepuff links ... I give you Smith and Bones ...
Hephzibah Smith stated she was a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff - and she also had Hufflepuff's cup ... she was killed and looks likely she was used to seal the horcrux ...
We also have Zacharias Smith - a Hufflepuff student ... Smith a link?
But more of a strike in my mind was the Bones' ...
I was vastly interested in the past why we had a couple of drops on 'McKinnons, Bones', & Prewetts ...' - as follows ...

'...Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabien, they fought like heroes....'

Added to this the death of Amelia Bones and then Susan Bones' mum - and of course Susan Bones - Hufflepuff ...
I thought the relevance was in all three of the families - McKinnons, the Bones, the Prewetts - we know that Molly Weasley was a Prewett - so perhaps we can strike their relevance in this - the McKinnons seem like a dead deal - but yet we still have killings in the Bones' camp ... I wonder if the object used to seal the Hufflepuff cup horcrux is somewhere around the Smith family?
If you believe in the premise that the death, the object and the concealed placement all link - it would seem really evil and nasty to conceal the Horcrux/Cup back inside the Hufflepuff family ... where it would be kept safe and treasured and never given away ...
Dumbledore knows that Voldemort took the cup - but I wonder if he tried speaking to the families of descended Hufflepuff's to see if they actually have the cup?
Remember - Dumbledore wasn't shouting around that he believed Voldemort had horcruxes - perhaps he never fully followed this link through?
Is it possible that either Zacharias Smith or Susan Bones could lead Harry to the Hufflepuff Horcrux?

Well I don't think ... I think that Voldemort wouldn't underestimate that much the other wizards... I guess an Horcrux is easily recognizable by a wizard who knows about them..Voldemort wouldn't volunteer himself to loose a precious horcrux like that...

Re: Alas Smith or Bones?
I dont think Horcruxes are that well known - been a banned subject as far back as when Riddle was at school - means most parental generations now wouldnt have known about them.
Plus - it's not like the object would glow or anything - it could be hidden anywhere and under any number of protections or not. Voldemort wanted to conceal and keep them safe - give a decedant of Hufflepuff a relic of Helga - they will look after it and keep it safe - it is a family heirloom!

Re: Alas Smith or Bones?
Wasn't Zacharias Smith one of the boys that Slughorn was so interested in? I know he was the one in the DA who kept mouthing off.
Could there be a possible link there? Why was it that Slughorn was interested in him and didn't he and Harry not get along?

Re: Alas Smith or Bones?
LOL - Zacharias Smith was the target of Ginny's Bat Bogey hex that landed her in the Slug Club.
I think he was also the guy that was commentating on the Quidditch Game and was landed by Ginny once again ...
Come to think of it - she does keep dropping him in there doesn't she ... umm?
Still - I am liking Bones - the reason they keep dying just makes me wonder so much!!
