A Luna Lovegood theory

This just occured to me, and i had to get it down before i forgot it.

Luna can see the thestrals because she saw her mother die. apparently in some accident, i believe?

Luna is also responsible for saying some weird stuff, yet is oddly honest.

When thinking about this, i thought, i wonder if Luna's mother worked in the department of mysteries at all?
i then wondered if perhaps the accident her mother had was not in fact fatal, but involved time...we see the egg grow and hatch to be a bird, and then back again...

what if Luna IS her 'mother'. she was experimenting with time, as an unspeakable. it went wrong, and left her younger, her memory erased to some extent, and due to the nature of her work, the Magical reversal squad weren't called in.

For me, this theory explains Luna's knowledge of the odd things, that seem ridiculous to us, because we know she often speaks 'uncomfortable truths'. She seems oddly familiar with the department of mysteries, in my opinion, and whilst she too can hear the whispers of the veil, she doesn't seem as transfixed as Harry had been.

She also comments on what could be in the locked room that melted Harry's knife, yet no-one asked her to elaborate.

Her involvement in the OotP speaks to me, as if she will be important later on. As if she will be able to help Harry out with a few little mysteries.

Re: A Luna Lovegood theory

very interesting idea, kashlie. but u missed a few things: how is she able to see thesterals if she really is her mother? and also, as far as we have so far seen, there is nothing to suggest that Luna Lovegood (my fav character) is anything more than what she seems.

"Mistletoe," said Luna dreamily, pointing at a large clump of white berries placed almost over Harry's head. He jumped out from under it. "Good thinking," said Luna very seriously. "It's often infested with nargles."

If it's wrong to think Tom Riddle is attractive, then i don't want to be right.

Re: A Luna Lovegood theory

yeah, it is just a theory, plenty of holes as with most other theories.

but, in answer to your thestrals question...if Luna believes she witnessed her mother die, would it be the same as actually having seen it?
In GoF, I am positive Harry had his eyes tightly shut when Cedric died, so whilst he in essence witnessed Cedric's death, he didn't actually see it, but he knows/believes that Cedric is dead.
If we see Draco again, i will be interested to know if he can now see the thestrals, having witnessed Dumbledore's death. why? because either he can, and dumbledore is truly dead, or Draco just believes him to be

i still believe there is more to Luna, even if my theory is total nonsense! she has a higher purpose for book 7.

Re: A Luna Lovegood theory

I did post another spec which might explain why it was pointed out about her mothers death - thestrals and the likes here - the relevance of Luna Lovegood ...
