You know, that realy makes sense. I wish the US had taken a clue and done that. People see my daughter reading HP and say "What a big girl reading such a long book" but they see me reading it, and though they don't say anything, you can read the look "can't you read a "grown up" book?" Not that I'm ashamed to read potter, or even be known as a fan, but a more grownup looking book just may get more adult fans in the US.

I have a couple of friends in the UK that I employ to get the adult versions of the books for me :p I think the UK ones are also a better read - They change a lot of the words around in the US versions to make it more friendly to those that speak American English.

I just read Leaky and noted this news item that clears up some of the mystery behind the name:
The Tiden quote reads:
"Because the title ...is very difficult to translate, especially if you haven't got the manuscript, JK Rowling decided to provide an alternative title to all the foreign publishers for translation. The title was 'HP and the Relics of Death' which is easily translated to 'HP och Dödsrelikerna'."

The Japanese title, first translated to us by former Leaky staffer Erin, has been revealed as "Harry Potter and the Secret Treasure of Death" (or simliar) by Say-Zan-Sha Publishing.

Our reader Frini says that the official title in Brazil is now "Harry Potter e as Relíquias da Morte," which means "Harry Potter and the Relics of Death."

Ok...what are you all thinking about these? Relics of Death? Secret Treasure of Death?

She also said she considered "HP & the Peverel Quest", but She thought "Quest" was a cheesy sounding word.

I have no idea why this post keeps coming up as the most recent of the day----I posted this on August 2, 2007, but it seems to be at the top of the list every couple of days.....oh well.....I hope someone is still paying attention on this site....I miss the conversation.
